William Davis MDWilliam Davis, MD and the Wheat Belly Phenomenon

With his book, Wheat Belly, William Davis, MD, has touched a nerve in the public on the topic of weight reduction and the toxicity of wheat.  I published a review of his Wheat Belly Book earlier this year and I have been amazed at the amount of visitors I’ve received on that review.  He is the Medical Director of the Track Your Plaque program and an advocate of early heart disease prevention and reversal.   He practices preventive cardiology in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In the following video which covers an interview with him by Jimmy Moore of the Livin’ La Vida Low Carb site, you can get a feel for his personality and understanding of the low carb and in particular no-wheat diet.

One of the topics of the conversation is the LDL (low density lipoprotein) count when your blood is analyzed for cholesterol and other blood characteristics such as blood sugar. LDL has historically been used as a predictor of heart disease risk – the higher it is, the worst the risk.  As low carb dieters have come to learn, there are actually two components of the LDL count, fluffy and small particle.  It turns out that the fluffy LDL cells are harmless.  It is the small, dense particles that are the risk factor.  Unfortunately, as pointed out in the interview, few doctors recommend testing for the small particle LDL count.
