What Is Insulin Resistance?
Insulin Resistance. While many people are unfamiliar with this term, it has become a heavy obstacle to face for those who have been diagnosed with Diabetes or in losing weight. If you’re diagnosed with Diabetes, you know that your pancreas is no longer creating enough Insulin, or it may have stopped Insulin production altogether. As a result, you’ll find that you need to take Insulin injections and patches in order to keep your body going and control your weight.
However, some people also find that they have to deal with Insulin Resistance. This process occurs when the cells in your body require a greater amount of Insulin in order respond to the Insulin itself. Since Insulin plays a vital role in keeping a consistently low concentration of blood sugar in the bloodstream, this condition may lead to higher than normal or at least, inconsistent concentrations of blood sugar. High blood sugar levels are not healthy, so Insulin Resistance can be responsible for sexual dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, blindness, and in worst case scenarios, can even cause amputation to become necessary.
With all the information provided to us, we now know the dangers that Insulin Resistance can cause. I’m sure the last thing you want to do is deal with the many symptoms it causes. So now I’m sure you’re asking yourself, “How do I reverse Insulin Resistance?” For more information on Insulin Resistance, check with your doctor or reputable online resources for Insulin Resistance.

I had a bad case of what they call “silent” insulin resistance–my BG was fine (always well below 100), my A1-C was fine, but I was obviously overweight, and it took a year of eating Paleo to finally get rid of some of it!
Did my doctor say anything about it? Does ANYBODY say anything about it? Heck no–it took a wacky-sounding doctor and her out-there book to bring it home to me.
According to modern medical machinery/measurements and family history, I wasn’t diabetic, or even close, yet my cholesterol numbers left something to be desired. One day, I tripped across a book that had OTHER things to say about diabetes, insulin resistance, and how to tell if you’re in the danger zone–it said that true pre-diabetes starts at a BG of 80, not 100 or above, and if you can grab a handful of fat on your legs just inside the knee, that’s insulin resistance. By this book’s standards, I WAS pre-diabetic…I just wish I could remember the title. I remember the author saying her patients start having the greatest BG/insulin resistance troubles when they fall in the 80-100 range.
1 1/2 years of Paleo, 30 lbs. gone, and much-improved BG and cholesterol numbers later, I’m cruising right along and not regaining an ounce. I’m fantasizing going another 1 1/2 years and losing another 30 lbs.–so far, all I’m doing is eating. My advanced rheumatoid arthritis won’t let me do much more.
Now I wished I’d kept that book–more people need to know more about CW medicine’s big goof.
Thanks for your meaningful story. It may just help someone else. If you can remember the name of the book that’s be great! I agree on the issue of not having enough advance warning. Most people aren’t aware of this kind of problem till it’s much more difficult to recover- and then, the answer from most doctors is just insulin!
Thanks again!
