Stop Eating Sugar
This is a valuable little video which provides a review of sugar addiction and what can be done to go on a sugar detox diet. It also covers related issues such as Obesity, Nutrition and Diabetes. It would be a good first step to investigate this topic if you are concerned about it for yourself or a friend or relative. This is a “Nutrition by Natalie” Video.
Natalie identifies 3 signs/characteristics of sugar addiction:
- Sugar addiction knocks you out of (glucose) homeostasis. Homeostasis is the regulation of some characteristic of the human body to optimize your health. As an example, your body’s internal temperature is usually pretty close to 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit most of the time unless you are ill or under some physical stress such as illness or strenuous exercise. This is a homeostatic process. In the same way there is a glucose homeostatis in your bloodstream to maintain a certain density of glucose in your bloodstream. Glucose is fed into your bloodstream either from what you eat directly or from fat stored in your body – and your body works very hard to keep this density within a narrow range to keep you from blacking out from too little glucose (Hypoglycemia) or damaging your circulatory system from too much glucose (Hyperglycemia).
- You can develop a tolerance to sugar, meaning that it takes more and more of it to keep you satisfied and making it much more difficult to stop eating sugar.
- You can become dependent on sugar, which means that interruption of the typical overeating of sugar you are accustomed to every day will make you feel bad enough to make it difficult to quit sugar.
