As a Diabetic, What is Paula Deen Going to Say About Fattening Food?
I was saddened to hear today that Paula Deen, the popular TV cooking personality who is well known for her rich and high calorie Southern recipes, has been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. With her spunk, however, she has a right to be, and should be optimistic about her future. Apparently she received this diagnosis 3 years ago and has kept it quiet until her announcement of this today on NBC TV. I personally admire her, as she has overcome many crises in her life to become quite a successful businesswoman and TV personality. Her restaurant in Savannah, Georgia is one of the “must do” locations to visit for tourists in Savannah. Wouldn’t it be nice if Paula Deen learns something about low carb and sugar detox diets and makes this popular spot more amenable to those on these effective diets!
It’s understandable that Paula Deen would delay in making her diagnosis public because of the long-standing relationship between fattening food and Type 2 Diabetes. Her “niche” in the TV cooking shows is rich, fattening entrees and desserts, so what is she going to say now! During her announcement today on NBC she stressed that moderation in what you eat is the important issue. In other words, eat the fattening types of foods she encourages only occasionally. That’s probably a safe thing to say.
What I would also encourage her to do is expand upon her recipes to let the public know how good low carb and low sugar food can be. She’s always pushed butter, so why not use that as a starting point to make the low carb and low sugar lifestyle more popular!
