Obesity Epidemic Likely Cause Of Huge Increase In Kidney Stones | Mountain News Today

The number of Americans suffering from kidney stones between 2007 and 2010 nearly doubled since 1994, according to a study by researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and RAND.

As with many studies you hear about in the news, this is not proof of a cause/effect relationship between obesity and Kidney stones.  It is however a well documented indication that such a relationship may exist.  The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was conducted based upon studies meant to assess the health and nutritional status of United States children and adults.   Many diet-related indications are coming out of this survey, including this one, so stay tuned…
