Dietitians Go After A Blogger

The North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition is threatening to send a blogger to jail for recounting publicly his battle against diabetes and encouraging others to follow his lifestyle.

Chapter 90, Article 25 of the North Carolina General Statutes makes it a misdemeanor to "practice dietetics or nutrition" without a license. According to the law, "practicing" nutrition includes "assessing the nutritional needs of individuals and groups" and "providing nutrition counseling."

Steve Cooksey has learned that the definition, at least in the eyes of the state board, is expansive.

Tom Naughton is now seeing a 2nd occurrence of established dieticians using their own authority to force their antiquated (low fat) views on us – at a low carb blogger’s expense!

It looks like he’s off the hook now, because he no longer accepts fees for his work. I think accepting fees without a license is wrong, but honestly, steve helps more people than the ADA ever will.

      Thanks Joshua,
Yes, the fee kind of trips him up, doesn’t it. Looks like he’ll skate free though. I’m glad this is happening – makes more people aware of how the authorities are using their power to prop up theories that don’t hold water anymore.
