This is a helpful video on ideas for Low Carb Snacks.  The focus is on snacks you can make yourself.    Ready-made snacks that are packaged for immediate use like low carb protein bars might not always have the healthiest ingredients, so, if you can, try to make use of these, more natural, snacks.  As always with a low carb diet or any diet that you are undertaking to stop cravings sweets, drink plenty of water.  You many often find that a tall glass (or bottle) of water is what you need anyway, instead of a snack.

Low Carb Snacks

To provide a little guidance on low carb snack recipes, the following suggestions are for low carb foods you can pick up from the grocery store. Be sure and read the labels for nutritional facts on these snacks. What you are interested in is the net cards for each item, measured in grams. The net carbs count is equal to the total carbs minus the carbs of fiber, minus the carbs of sugar alcohol. In some products, such as Atkins bars, the net carbs is declared on the front of the package. As a point of reference, the Atkins Day Break bars come in sizes in the 3 to 6 net carb range.

  • Deli Foods are very conveniently purchased and are usually very good. They have meats, cheeses, and salads. You can combine roast chicken with a salad, wrap tuna in a low carb tortilla, or pick from a wide variety of salads with or without meat. As a side-note, it’s better to buy sliced meats from a deli, where it is sliced as you purchase it, than from the meat counter in pre-packaged form. In some of the pre-packages, high fructose corn syrup is used as a preservative coating on the meat, unnecessarily adding carbs to the meat.
  • Salad Bars can also be fun – just pick out the good (low carb) stuff and create your own concoction. For dressings, the plain oil and vinegar or blue cheese dressings will probably have the least amount of sugar in them.
  • Vegetables can be purchased in some stores in prepared, snack sized packages. Some vegetables are almost ready-to-eat anyway, such as broccoli, bell peppers, and celery.
  • Pre-Made Salads are gaining popularity and come packaged with dressings, meats, and sometimes separate sections to keep them fresh.
  • Individual Cheeses are also conveniently wrapped in small packages that are perfect for snacks.
  • Low Carb Snack bars like Atkins Endulge and other bars specifically formulated for low carb diets are very effective for dieters. They are rather expensive however, so some dieters have learned to make their own at home.
  • In addition, there is a wide variety of snacks like low-sugar fruit, Sugar-Free Yogurt, low-carb meal replacement bars, pork rinds, and sugar-free jello snacks that add variety and convenience.
