Low Carb Breakfast Ideas

Low Carb Breakfast Favorites
The favorite breakfast for many on a Low Carb Diet is an old favorite, bacon and eggs. Others that aren’t that fond of bacon and eggs may need to get more creative, because toast, cereal, or oatmeal, and other favorites are not on the list for Low Carb Dieters.
My personal favorite breakfast, for the sake of convenience, is a Low Carb Shake. Skyrocket Your Chances of Success with
This article may therefore be a start in providing you some ideas and assistance in coming up with low carb foods that will be pleasing to you personally. There is plenty to choose from. The wonderful thing about a low carb breakfast is that it will stick with you well until lunch. Without sugars to play havoc with your insulin, you will have energy to spare until your next meal.
The most difficult obstacle for some with a low carb breakfast is that orange juice or any kind of fruit juice is not allowed. The natural sugars in juice, even freshly squeezed juice, are too high in carbs so it is best to just get over it and do without them. I have had a habit of a small glass of orange or cranberry juice every morning for years, so this transition was difficult for me. I switched over to ice water and now don’t notice I’m missing anything.
The following are low carb breakfast ideas that may be of some help:
Eggs
Some people aren’t used to cooking in the morning, but it is well worth the effort to do so if you care for them. Sunny side up, scrambled, or simply hard boiled, they can’t be beat for a filling nutritious breakfast. Add bacon of course and you have the breakfast of champions. Add a flax muffin if you like as well. Some egg dishes are more involved, but well worth it if you want to give them a try. Some examples are frittatas, omelets, and other dishes.
Frittatas are a cross between a quiche and an omelet, fixed over the stove or baked in the oven. Leftover vegetables can be included to suit your taste. Popular in Italy, they are common lunch items brought from home. They can be refrigerated or frozen of use later.
Simple scrambled eggs are both easy to do and flexible with what you add to them. Leftover vegetables, onions, bacon or ham, are all favorite additions. They can be refrigerated for use later.
Breakfast Meats
The all-time favorite for breakfast is fried bacon, but if you’re not into that there are excellent alternatives in sausage, ham, or turkey. I also like microwaveable bacon, which is fast and pretty good in terms of taste. If the grease bothers you with this type of thing, try turkey sausage which can be quite tasty but yet not so greasy as bacon or breakfast sausage.
Breakfast Breads
Breads, biscuits and muffins can be baked from almond meal, flax meal, and other low-carb ingredients. Many low carb bread recipes can be found online. Low carb pancake mixes are available for pancakes and can even be made from scratch. Microwaved “breakfast puddings” are a popular choice. They are made from flax or almond meal with berries, peanut butter, and other flavorings. They are cooked in a microwave.
Low Carb Fruit
Low carb fruit can be used in a number of ways. Eat them raw or combine them with other ingredients such as spoonable dairy products or a little cream. Nuts, frozen berries or flax seed can also be added to perk up these concoctions.
Protein Bars and Shakes
Shakes are quick and delicious. Make a shake with fruit or flavorings, protein powder, and unsweetened soy milk, kefir, or water. Delicious low carb shakes can also be purchased in a wide variety of flavors.
Protein bars are my favorite for a quick breakfast. Be careful with the contents by checking the number of grams of carbohydrates (carbs) in each. A good low carb bar will have no more than 7 or so grams of carbs or net carbs. For some bars, a count of the net carbs is included, which is roughly the total carb count in grams minus the grams of carb fiber, which doesn’t impact blood sugar levels.
Low Carb Cereal
Cereals are generally based on grains, so they are a bit more difficult to enjoy in a non-carbohydrate form, but there are ways to do it. Some, such as Special K, are available in a low carb formulation. All Bran and Fiber One are popular high fiber cereals. Be sure and check the labels, as the formulations change – along with the carbohydrate levels.
Low Carb Breakfast Recipes
There are tons of recipes available for purchase or free online. Many are also available on YouTube, as shown above for a Breakfast Pizza. Keep in mind that you can save leftovers for low carb snacks or even a low carb lunch later on. I often fry extra bacon at breakfast and use it later on to add to my lunchtime salad.

I would strongly disagree with bacon being a low carb breakfast food. Bacon is loaded with fat, by eating one strip you’ll be walking a few laps around the block to burn that off.

Paul,
Perhaps there’s a miscommunication here because bacon has no carbs in it, so it if fine for a low carb diet. You are correct that it is loaded with saturated fat, but with a low carb diet (assuming the dieter is following the diet) insulin levels will be low so the fat in the bacon will be metabolized as energy rather than turning into fat (which occurs if insulin levels are high). Thanks for your comment.
