Jimmy and Christine Moore on Induction
Once you start looking into low carb dieting, a topic that comes up often is Induction, or the Induction Phase. This term stems from Dr. Atkins’ original diet plan and is used universally for dieters on the low carb journey. It is usually just the first couple of weeks and is a significant adjustment to most of us, but it is truly the best, and some say only way to get started on a low carb diet. In the video below, Jimmy Moore, one of the leaders in the online low carb community reviews the Induction Phase with his wife, Christine. These two have been a tremendous asset to us in the low carb community and we owe them a great deal for leading the way!
Contrary to what you may be thinking, this phase is not so much for you to get used to low carb dieting, or to lose a bunch of weight so you can feel confident it will work. It is those actually, but the main purpose of induction is to switch your body over to burning fat for energy rather than carbs. Weight gain for most people is caused by your body using carbs for energy (instead of fats) and overeating because of the sugar highs and lows and high insulin levels due to carbs. Switch over to burning fat (instead of carbs) for energy during induction and you open the door to burning fat every day and over time losing weight.
